Upcycling Summer Fun With Glass Jars and Bottles

Posted by Simon M on

Summer is the perfect time to get creative. Upcycling glass jars is the perfect way to reuse a common household item into something useful. Not only is it a fantastic way to reduce waste, but it also allows you to create unique and stylish pieces for your home or garden.

A simple coat of paint can transform a glass jar into a striking vase for freshly cut garden flowers. For a more rustic look, leave the jar clear and tie a piece of twine or lace around the neck. If you're feeling adventurous, try decorating with colourful paper or fabric for a truly personalised piece.

If you’re looking for something to do with the kids, glass jars offer endless possibilities. Fill a jar with water, food colouring, and a few drops of washing-up liquid to create a mesmerising bubble wand. Alternatively, decorate jars with paint, glitter, and sequins to make enchanting fairy houses. For a nature-inspired craft, collect pebbles, shells, and sand from your beach day and layer them in a jar for a miniature seaside scene.

Glass bottles can also be repurposed into a variety of decorative items. Remove the label and soak the bottle in warm, soapy water to ensure it's clean. Then paint the bottle in your chosen colour or leave it clear, and decorate with ribbons, lace, or artificial flowers. A cluster of painted bottles can create a stunning centrepiece for your summer dinner party.

For a touch of bohemian chic, turn your glass bottles into wind chimes. Fill cleaned bottles with different amounts of rice, beans, or pebbles to create varying chimes. Tie the bottles together with sturdy string or wire, and hang them from a tree or porch.
